LG Electronics has announced the launch of its new flagship mobile phone for 2009, the LG "Arena".

Describing the Arena, or LG-KM900 to give it its official name, LG says it's a "fully loaded" multimedia phone offering the company's "innovative and dynamic" 3D S-Class user interface.

The 3D UI boasts a "cube-based" layout with four customisable home screens for direct access to all features that LG claims is "natural and easy to navigate".

"The direct, intuitive and dynamic S-Class UI will be unlike anything that has appeared on a mobile phone before. With rich 3D graphics, touch sensitivity and exciting multimedia capabilities, it will truly make ARENA a fully loaded multimedia phone", said Dr. Skott Ahn, president and CEO of LG.

LG claims the Arena will feature audio and video technologies "never before seen on a mobile phone".

Features include support for Dolby and DivX, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, Wi-Fi, A-GPS and "far more".

LG promises specifics and "surprises" at its Mobile World Congress press event - we'll bring you more from there.
