Driver by Gameloft has screeched to a halt in the app store for $6.99.  This complete port of the 1999 PS1 and computer classic looks even better on the Iphone as you wheel your way through 40 missions in four large open cities with the added Iphone benefit of accelerometer control.  Or, you can simply free ride and complete  challenges while being chased by the wildest pack of mad dog police you're ever likely to find in a video game.  For those of you who remember the original, you'll be happy to know

that the opening garage scene, a source of considerable frustration, has been turned into a simple tutorial to allow you to easily dive into the missions.

For those who prefer their action in the the air, Ace Combat Xi from Namco has been released for $7.99.  There are only 5 missions and 5 planes included so you may want to wait for for the imminent release of HawkX from Gameloft or Skies of Glory.
