DirtMoto Racing
By goyami @ Sunday, July 19, 2009 :: 1445 Views :: Racing

Resolution Interactive, the maker of the fine jet ski racer AquaMoto Racing, show they can do down and dirty as well as wet and wild with their new ATV racer DirtMoto Racing for the Iphone. Built upon the frame of their previous racer, they’ve taken the knowledge they’ve gained on the water to give us one of the longest, most comprehensive dirt racing blasts found on the Iphone.

While AquaMoto grew somewhat repetitive racing around water buoys, DirtMoto lets you run races on different courses in four distinct locations; Toronto, British Columbia, Death Valley and the Florida Keys. The career consists of 8 levels of 4 races against 5 other racers where you must collect 12 podium finishes to complete. While I felt AquaMoto got too hard too fast, DirtMoto has a more gradual curve and in fact you can unlock the next level before you collect all 12 medals. The 4 types of races you compete in are race, checkpoint, sprints and freestyle. You can also choose from a single event time trial where there are 108 medals to completion.   Then there is the online rankings where you can see your ranking on all the courses AND you can choose to challenge any ranked racer in which case you will race against a very cool ghost rider that is simply awesome! This adds up to a lot of racing action.

Control is handled by tilt control that is excellent once you find your preferred sensitivity and you accelerate by touch or auto. As you advance through the career you gain tuning points that you can apply to your ATV and adjust as needed according to the course.   All the courses are closed tracks except for the Death Valley checkpoint races meaning that if you go off course you will be reset back into the pack. This occurs most frequently in the Toronto races at dusk where it’s a little hard to follow the sharp turns of the course.

The graphics are very nice, not Real Racing quality but good nonetheless and the rider animations are excellent as they get knocked off their ATV’s and wave fists at one another. There are a lot of jumps throughout the races that let you perform an extensive array of tricks using either touch, swiping or tilting which will fill your boost meter. There are 3 camera views from close to far and you can customize your rider and ATV.

DirtMoto Racing is a terrific all-around dirt racer. I like it more than AquaMoto Racing for it’s variety of terrain and with its great depth it should provide hours of 5* play for anyone looking to do it in the dirt.
