Sparkin’ Apps has released a nice spear fishing app called, of all things, Spearfishing. This is a realistic diving app that immerses you in a beautiful underwater world and let’s you swim with rays, sailfish, groupers and sharks before spearing them.

If you can get past the moral objections, you’ll find a well-made though somewhat limited undersea app. The fish move beautifully drifting and then darting through the rocks and coral when alerted to your presence. When you fire your spear gun the camera follows the spear until it finds it’s target.

There are a series of 20 timed challenges for you to accomplish like spearing certain varieties or a certain total weight. Spearfishing has three difficulty levels that increase the speed of the fish and you can also adjust your oxygen duration. The PRO version allows you unlimited freeswim.

The sharks and rays don’t take kindly to your spear and will attack. You have flippers to speed away and handy med packs on the ocean floor. You can also surface for air and to gaze at the nice graphics.

It would be nice to do something besides kill fish all day and perhaps have some different areas to visit like a sunken ship, but this may have to wait for updates. As it is, Spearfishing is an absorbing underwater dive that may take your breath away. 4 Stars.
