Reckless Racing
By goyami @ Wednesday, February 23, 2011 :: 1228 Views :: Racing

Whenever I pick up Reckless Racing from EA and Pixelbite, a smile slowly starts to spread across my face. Before long that smile turns into a full-out dumb-ass grin as the world melts away and I’m drawn into the wild off-road racing antics of the “good ole boys”. I can give no higher compliment to a game than it‘s ability to make me smile.

Looking down on the gorgeously detailed environments of Reckless Racing with it’s racers sliding, crashing and flying off cliffs will take you back to your Hot Wheels days as a child where your imagination knew no bounds. With the latest update you get to choose from eight different cars each with their own special characteristics. There are jeeps, muscle cars, a semi-truck, a racer and a monster truck for you to play with. There are 5 different race tracks along with their reverse direction for you to unlock in the original release and Pixelbite has recently added two more tracks which includes a frozen lake that makes you feel like a motorized hockey puck.

The controls are very good with a standard mode with turn control in the left corner, a tilt mode and a tank mode which has L and R turning on the L and R of your screen. Each method gives you the choice of auto gas and sensitivity adjustment. I prefer the tank method as tilting makes it hard to focus on the screen as you slide around the many switchbacks and curves.

There are only two degrees of difficulty, beginner, a relaxing yet fun way to learn the tracks and an advanced mode, a wild and intense ride that forces you to memorize the courses, slide cleanly through the turns and slam your opponents into shimmering lakes, beautifully detailed buildings or best of all over treacherous cliffs. The vehicle physics in this game are fantastic!

There’s also a ghost race mode to beat your best times and a delivery mode that allows you to have some fun delivering swinging trailers from one location to another. Unfortunately, the only negative in Reckless Racing was my inability to connect to the online multiplayer as I would always lose connection while waiting for the race.

Reckless Racing is flat out the best top-down racer you can get for your smartphone and gets 4 ½ stars and a big Yeehaw!
