I hate bugs. My first instinct is to swat or smash the vermin not to take them into battle as heroic warriors. But Bug Heroes has won me over and I look forward to my daily battles with my feisty little buggers as I try to level them up and make them stronger in their never ending struggle to find food and protect their stash. I’m starting to grow a certain fondness for Foursaken Media’s brave little bugs, a fondness that’s aided by the fact that Bug Heroes has recently gone free with IAP for those who get hopelessly bitten by the bug.

Even if you missed last weeks $.99 sale, if you’re in the mood for a long and absorbing action RPG you can’t go wrong with Gameloft’s Dungeon Hunter II even at $6.99. This epic game will have you exploring gorgeous dungeons, caves, swamps, sky islands and castles for weeks if not months as you build up your character with tons of weapons, armor and magic attacks.

Dungeon Defenders by Trendy Entertainment is an ambitious title that strives to combine 3^rd person dungeon defense, role-playing, tower defense and online coop action into one heady brew for your mobile device. Needless to say, this is a tall order not only for the developer but also the player and the hardware.

In Ultimate Spider-Man Total Mayhem Gameloft has taken Marvel’s web-spinning, wall-climbing superhero, drawn and animated him and his enemies beautifully, and brought a comic book to life in the palm of our hands. All it takes are a few simple touches to make you feel like a high-flying superhero. Do the kids of today know how good they’ve got it?

The app store is a sea of emptiness when it comes to realistic 3D submarine simulations.  While you’ll pass a fleet of zombies clinging to every log,  puzzlers,  platformers and flyers of every stripe, your chances of pulling a submarine app from the depths is slim.  Silent Hunter by Ubisoft is a lone wolf in these waters and when you see the opening cut scenes, your naval pulse may well skip a beat.

Pocket Legends by Spacetime Studios is a terrifically fun 3D MMORPG that’s a first of its kind for the Idevice and deserves to be tried by anyone remotely interested in a 3D mobile online multiplayer action/RPG.  It costs you nothing for some incredibly robust content that lets you build three different character types up 13 levels before being tempted by the DLC.  At which point, you’ll happily throw down $1.99 to continue the party.
