Mobile gaming’s premier racing simulation, Real Racing 2 by Firemint, is available for a meager $2.99.  Real Racing 2 blurs the line between mobile and console gaming and in some ways surpasses the older platform.

If you’re driving down the road and see gas selling for $.99  you’d probably  swerve over, hop the curb and eagerly screech to a halt.  Such is the case with Race illegal - High Speed 3D by Chillingo and Apetrus, a $.99 cent racer that’s a no-brainer for most race fans regardless of whether they’re getting hi-octane or simply low grade soup.

Once you start your engine, you’ll find that High Speed 3D revs up quite nicely and is indeed a full-fledged racer complete with a career, a story, a garage, a wide range of races and no fuel sucking IAP’s.  While that may not qualify High Speed as hi-octane, since it does produce a few misfires, you certainly won’t feel ripped-off as you leave the station.

Toward the end of last year I was focused on writing reviews for an Android site and while I was aware of the great major releases like Real Racing 2, Black Pegasus and Nova 2, I missed some of the lesser known titles.  One of these is the horribly-titled Uber Racer 3D by Mad Processor.

This Mad Max inspired off-road racer is a great running mate to the track-based racing of RR2.  UR is a 3D racer with a real go-anywhere-do-anything feel to it.  The races take place in a desolate burnt-out future after the holocaust and the prize is oil.

Whenever I pick up Reckless Racing from EA and Pixelbite, a smile slowly starts to spread across my face. Before long that smile turns into a full-out dumb-ass grin as the world melts away and I’m drawn into the wild off-road racing antics of the “good ole boys”. I can give no higher compliment to a game than it‘s ability to make me smil.

Gameloft has shown it's commitment to GT Racing by quickly putting out an update that addresses the draw distance and pop-up issues while adding two new cars, the Bugatti Veyron and a 1992 Celica. It also seems to load a tad faster making GTR the Gran Turismo of the Iphone.

Note: This review is for the original $6.99 complete version of GT Racing which has been replaced with an inferior "free" version in which you're forced to pay for the more exotic cars.  If you're lucky enough to have the full version do not delete it as you will lose a classic racer.

GT Racing: Motor Academy from Gameloft distances itself from the arcade racing of their Asphalt series of games and enters GT territory dominated by Firemint’s Real Racing and EA’s recent Need for Speed Shift. One might question weather another GT racer is needed but the market for racing games seems endless and Motor Academy offers some outstanding features not found in the other top racers.

The newest addition to EA’s Need For Speed garage, NFS Shift, distinguishes itself from the arcade racing of NFS Undercover by providing more of a simulation type experience with an emphasis on the correct braking and proper racing line rather than spectacular collisions, cops or storyline.

If you’ve enjoyed the previous editions of Gameloft’s arcade racing Asphalt series you’ll be glad to know nothing has changed.  Lots of exotic cars and motorcycles to unlock from Lotus’ to Lamborghini’s and Ducati’s along with 12 good looking locations with 4 different types of races at each locale.  While some may wish for a little wrinkle in the formula, the motto “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” has served Gameloft well for 5 editions.  Unfortunately, they’ve added one new wrinkle that very well could of been left out.
